Sharp Philippines Organized A New Environmental Campaign Activity: “Be Sharp, Plant A Tree For A Greener Future”

The entire world is being seriously impacted by climate change, not just the Philippines. Due to the adverse climate, we are already feeling its impacts. The international community has realized how urgently pressing it to solve increasing environmental issues. In this situation, Sharp Corporation, through Sharp (Philippines), formulated Eco Vision 2050, a long-term environmental vision with an emphasis on resource recycling, safety and security, and climate change. This vision aims to be one with the community by minimizing the environmental impact of different business activities.

In keeping with the Sharp Eco Vision 2050, Sharp Philippines Corporation unveiled the “Caring for the Next Generation” branding campaign. One of the campaign’s activities is “Be Sharp, Plant a Tree for a Greener Future” which will run from March 15, 2024 to June 15, 2024. Planting a thousand trees is the goal of this campaign in an effort to mitigate the effects of climate change and contribute to the achievement of a greener, healthier world.

Our partner organization, Nature Awareness & Conservation Club, Inc., affiliated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), have social and environment responsibility programs in partnership with local people organization of fishing community and farmers with formation on Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP) of DENR. They are well-known for their mangroves and upland tree planting activities in the Philippines.

As part of this initiative, Sharp Philippines and the partner organizations will plant a mangrove tree for every participating Sharp refrigerator model that a customer will purchase. During the low tide season in April, May, and June of 2024, mangrove trees will be planted on a few designated coastal sites in Bataan and Batangas. These trees will help in mitigating the consequences of climate change by protecting the coastlines, supplying marine habitats, and storing carbon.

As a token of appreciation for caring for the environment, customers could request an electronic certificate by filling out the registration form on the official website of Sharp Philippines (ph.sharp). Pipol, time to vote! 5th VP Choice Awards voting mechanics are out now!

Being the most anticipated event in 2024, Village Pipol Choice Awards heard the Pipol’s excitement and released the voting mechanics and criteria for their 5th awards night. The result will determine the names and brands that stood out in the previous year.

The most followed and engaged award-giving body in the Philippines gave fans a month to actively participate in the voting activities from March 15 to April 15, 2024. Having an accumulated 110 million plus engagements and reach last year, 5th VPCA continues to amplify the voices of the Pipol and opened more platforms for voting.

Determining the next VPCA winners

Supporters of the nominated brands and personalities can now cast their votes through VP Choice Awards official Facebook page and BingoPlus Voting Portal. Moreover, accumulated votes from these platforms will be added to the overall score percentage to determine the winner.

5th VP Choice Awards unveiled much awaited list of nominees

The 5th VP Choice Awards (VPCA) unveiled the highly anticipated list of nominees. Signaling its 5th year with a red carpet and an awarding ceremony scheduled for May 2024. On January 13, VPCA, with Village Pipol, RED Entertainment, Inc., officially released the nominees.

Furthermore, the VPCA recognizes celebrities, personalities, and brands across categories such as Business, Technology, Lifestyle, Travel, and Entertainment.

These nominees were selected based on their relevance and impact in the year 2023. Public nominations, carried out by the “Pipol,” took place from November to December 2023. Moreover, notable nominees in the entertainment category include artists and shows from ABS-CBN, TV5, and GMA7.

Challenged with redefining the new value of televisions in the future, participants developed applications and software prototypes under various themes such as “AI”, “Web3”, “QoL (Quality of life)”, and “Entertainment” among others. 

Hackathon winner, Team Yukai na Nakama Tachi, who proposed the idea of an ‘AI assistant standing close by the family’, took home the coveted 1 million yen cash prize. SHARP is also considering a future joint development and acceleration support for the winning prototype.

Grab Philippines Optimistic About Mobility Service Reliability Amid Holiday Rush

Grab expresses confidence in the reliability of its mobility services as holiday demand emerges. This confidence arises from Grab proactively implementing various mobility solutions aimed at optimizing fleet utilization, ensuring that every GrabCar on the road operates at its peak.

Historically, Grab has consistently noted a significant surge in demand for its mobility services during the holiday season. In December 2023, Grab anticipates a minimum 20% increase in GrabCar demand, potentially spiking up to 45% in the 2nd and 3rd weeks. This surge in demand presents a challenge for supply allocation, one that the superapp tackles through its vehicle maximization strategy.

Maximizing the GrabCar Fleet

In its pursuit of platform reliability, Grab has activated an array of mobility solutions that optimize the utilization of its current GrabCar fleet. This strategic approach enhances platform reliability, tackling the demand-supply imbalance. Among these solutions is GrabShare. Relaunched in Q1 of 2023, this beloved carpooling service matches passengers headed in the same direction to share a singular vehicle. If unmatched, the passenger is then instead allocated a GrabCar but with a discounted fare made possible by the GrabShare Match Guarantee offer. GrabShare is currently available in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. 

Passengers from the airport, particularly Overseas Filipino Workers coming home to celebrate the holidays in the Philippines, can also expect a reliable GrabCar booking experience via the GrabAirport feature. In response to the shortage of safe, dependable, and transparent transportation in the airports, Grab worked with airport authorities and the LTFRB in developing GrabAirport – an on-demand ride-hailing service supported by a dedicated Grab fleet for airport pick-ups and drop-offs.

In order to cater to time-constrained passengers who require prompt allocation of vehicles, Grab is introducing Multi-Taxi Type (MTT) booking. By enabling the platform to search for vehicle allocation from a range of Grab’s mobility options such as GrabCar Four-Seater, GrabCar Six-Seater, and GrabTaxi, MTT bookings may significantly reduce allocation time by 20 to 30% as shown during the pilot runs of the feature. This enhancement ensures a more reliable and efficient booking experience for passengers, especially those who are in a hurry.

Grab works closely with the  Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in growing the current driver pool – an integral factor in achieving equilibrium between demand and supply on the platform. This year, following the opening of new slots by LTFRB, Grab was able to grow its fleet by 40%. In time for the Christmas rush, Grab continues to onboard drivers who were able to secure a slot from the most recent pool of 10,200 TNVS franchises issued by LTFRB last August. 4,000 new driver-partners have been activated from this pool thus far. While we grow our driver pool to the pre-pandemic number, we are taking proactive steps to ensure a well-balanced platform that delivers on its promise of safety, reliability and convenience even amid seasonal changes in the market landscape,” Roda notes.
