How to set-up Xiaomi Mi WiFi Repeater Pro 2.4G + Giveaway!

0

In the era of the “new normal,” essential tools and gadgets are a necessity for everyone, especially those working from home or engaged in remote online learning.

However, working from home presents its own set of challenges, including distractions, internet connectivity problems, and more. My personal struggle revolves around my inability to work outside my bedroom due to the weak WiFi signal, especially on the first floor of our home.

Fortunately, I stumbled upon the Xiaomi Mi WiFi Repeater Pro during Shopee’s flash deal offer. I managed to snag it for just Php 387, a significant discount from its original price of Php 1,288.

The Mi WiFi Repeater Pro serves as a device to extend the WiFi coverage of a router, making it particularly useful in areas of the house with weak signals.

Here are the specifications:

The package I purchased was complete, but regrettably, the manual only contained instructions in Chinese. If you find yourself in the same situation and are unsure about how to install and set up the device, worry not. I’ll guide you through the process.

You may also watch my Vlog unboxing and get a chance to win one of this device.

To set up the Mi WiFi Repeater Pro, follow these steps:

  1. First, plug the Mi WiFi Repeater Pro into an outlet near your WiFi Router. This ensures a faster integration between the router and the repeater.
  2. Check the LED light on the Mi WiFi Repeater Pro. If it starts blinking in orange, you’re ready for the next step.
  3. On your phone, download the “Xiaomi Home” app, available on both Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store).
  4. Install and open the “Xiaomi Home” app. Read and accept the terms and conditions and the user experience program.
  5. Select your country/region. It’s essential to choose “Chinese Mainland” as selecting other regions may not work.
  6. If it’s your first time using the app, proceed with registration, or if you already have an account, log in with your Xiaomi account.
  7. Fill in the required account details, ensuring you use a working email address where an activation code/link will be sent to activate your account.
  8. Once your account is successfully activated, click the “+” button in the upper right corner of the window to start searching for the Mi WiFi Repeater Pro.
  9. If you have other nearby Xiaomi iOS devices, this process can also help detect those devices.
  10. Once the device is detected, click on “Mi WiFi Range Extender Pro.” Please note that the device may have a different name from its packaging.
  11. Select your SSID or the WiFi network you want to connect to, enter your WiFi password, and then click “Okay.”
  12. Wait for the devices to connect.
  13. Optionally, you can select a room and rename the device.
  14. Click “Let’s get started,” and you’re finished connecting your WiFi Router to the Mi WiFi Repeater Pro.

You can now unplug the device and place it in an area with weak WiFi signal.

How to access Prayers and other Pinoy App contents on MyPhone?

Established in 2007, MyPhone is the first and one of the pioneer in local phone brands in the Philippines. It was introduced to the Filipino’s as the first dual-SIM phone with and the iconic Philippine map designed at the back of every phone which is according to the company’s CEO and founder Mr. David Lim symbolizes dignity of a being Filipino.

Competing against giant mobile brands back then like Nokia, MyPhone captivated the pulse of common Filipinos, the “Masses” by offering it’s novelty features released through the pre-embedded Pinoy App with patented contents.

Pinoy App is the collection of patented contents that mirrors the lifestyle of common Filipinos.

The app contains contents such as Pinoy jokes, bugtong, entertainment, horoscopes, health tips, Philippine History, and the most-known content, Prayers; all of which are accessible for free for all MyPhone users.

Over the past 13 years, these customized features set the MyPhone apart from its counterparts; Hence, making it the leading Pinoy phone brand in the country.

‘PRAYERS, the world’s greatest wireless connection’

This year, a pandemic happened that drastically changed our lifestyle. It has affected not only our everyday lives and our work, but also tested our well-being and faith. As a Catholic-majority nation, most of us believe that prayers truly are an effective way to combat such troubles and hardships.

Personally, even before being part of the company back in 2012, MyPhone was one of my very first personal phone and I really liked it’s feature that automatically prays in the morning, afternoon and evening. It also reminded me of special events in the country like holidays.

One prayer content that is very close to my heart, that whenever I am feeling sick or down was the “Healing Prayers” by Father Suarez and Father Faller.

With MyPhone, you can easily access the strongest weapon in your phone, prayer contents,  in just a few taps of your finger tips.

How to Access Prayers?

  2. Wait for the app to load, scroll down and click or tap “my|Faith” category.

    • Intercession Prayers
    • Personal Prayers
    • Everyday Prayers
    • Healing Prayers
    • Prayer Messages
    • Common PrayersExamination of Conscience
  4. Once you select a sub-category, e.g “Holy Rosary”, you will see a list of prayers. Tap on the Play button and you may now start listening to prayers.
    • If it’s your first time accessing the contents, you may need to download the content on your MyPhone. Access to wifi or data is required.

Out of the box, all MyPhone handsets are equipped with this feature and are set with an alarm to remind MyPhone users to pray every day; Morning Prayer, Angelus, 3 o’clock in the afternoon and Evening.

For non – Catholic users, there is also an option to opt-out or disable this  feature.

How to Disable Prayer Alarm?

  1. Simply click or tap on the “Pinoy App” icon on your MyPhone.
  2. Wait for the app to load, scroll down and click or tap “my|Faith App”
  3. Select a sub-category “Prayer Setting” ; under this you will see category lists: Morning Prayer, Angelus, 3 O’clock Prayer and Evening Prayer
  4. Select a category from the list e.g “Morning Prayer”
    • Tap “Enable” to enable alarm.
    • Tap “Disable” to disable alarm
    • Tap “Set Time” to set the time of your alarm.

The Pinoy App is pre-installed in all MyPhone Android phones and can be accessed exclusively by MyPhone users for free. The MyPhone basic phones are also equipped with Pinoy App but an exclusive SD Card with Pinoy contents are required to access this feature.

Working with MyPhone for the past 8 years, I am definitely proud and grateful to be part of a company and organization that truly values the welfare of fellow filipinos, values faith and most importantly put God in the center of everything.

And I look forward in the coming years that MyPhone will still continue to serve the Filipinos with valuable, durable and value for money products. As well as continue to empower local brands. #PusoFOrLokal.

How to avail Covid-19 swab test for FREE at SM MOA Arena.

0

Despite imposing one of the strictest and longest lockdowns in Southeast Asia, it’s disheartening to note that my country, the Philippines, has now surpassed 200,000 cases of COVID-19 as of this moment.

Since Metro Manila initiated a lockdown in March, I have diligently adhered to the government and health experts’ advice to stay home. Fortunately, my company swiftly transitioned to a full work-from-home operation, a practice we’d already implemented the previous year.

Six months of staying at home has been an eye-opening experience for many of us. We’ve discovered hidden talents, and some have ventured into entrepreneurship. However, dealing with an invisible enemy like the coronavirus is both scary and disconcerting.

Adapting to the new normal can be quite overwhelming, and for me, it has been depressing. This is one of the reasons I decided to deactivate my Facebook account to change my perspective on things.

Care for your Mental Health

Prioritizing mental health is crucial, and we must never neglect it. This is why I made the decision to return to my hometown in Quezon Province to spend time with my parents and family. However, this decision came with its challenges due to ongoing travel restrictions.

In order to move from one town to another, obtaining a Travel Pass is essential, and one of the prerequisites for it is securing a Health Certification from the local Brgy. Health Center.

There are two ways to obtain this Health Certification: first, quarantine for 14 days, or second, provide a Covid-19 Swab Test Certificate with a negative result.

COVID-19 SWAB TESTING FOR FREE.

Obtaining a Covid-19 Swab Test can be costly, with prices ranging from P4,000 to P12,000, as per the information I found online.

After reaching out to several laboratories and hospitals, I gathered the following details:

  1. The Philippine Red Cross (Private, per schedule) – P4,000
  2. The Medical City (Private, per schedule via Ambulatory or Drive-Thru) – P6,000
  3. Detoxicare Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (Private, Home Service, per schedule) – P8,000

Initially, I had planned to get my swab test done at The Medical City, but I later learned about FREE Swab Testing being conducted at the Mall of Asia Arena. This mass testing initiative was a collaboration between the PNP, DOH, Philippine Red Cross, and the MOA Arena.

I underwent my Swab Test on Aug. 28 (Friday) around 3 PM and received the results on Aug. 30, approximately at 10 AM.

Watch my Vlog on my #JourNYI to the FREE Swab Test

GUIDE IN AVAILING THE FREE SWAB TEST IN MOA ARENA.

As I mentioned in my vlog, the MOA Arena has been transformed into a massive swab testing facility by the government for Covid-19. Initially, this facility was primarily used for LGU’s and returning OFW’s, but now it’s OPEN TO THE PUBLIC for FREE.

You can go there as a walk-in, but due to the high demand for free swab testing, it’s advisable to register online and receive the code via text from the Red Cross.

Here’s how I did it:

1. REGISTER ONLINE – I found this registration link in a Facebook group that was forwarded to me. It worked for me, so it should work for you too. Register here: Fill out the Google form with your accurate personal information, a working mobile number (as Red Cross will text you the “CODE”), and a working email (where you’ll receive your test result). If you have a Philhealth number, enter it; if not, that’s okay. The form also asks for the “LGU” that sponsored you. Select your preferred “LGU” from the drop-down menu. If it’s not listed, choose “MAKATI CITY” (which I selected). Then click “SUBMIT,” and you’ll be registered.

2. CODE – Wait for the CODE to be sent to the mobile number you provided. You’ll receive a text message from “RED CROSS” containing your name and the Code. I registered on Aug. 25 (Tuesday) and received the text from Red Cross on Aug. 27 (Thursday) around 8 PM.

3. GO TO MOA ARENA – Once you receive the text message from the Red Cross, you can head to MOA Arena at your convenience. Make sure to bring a government-issued ID. There’s no specified schedule in the text, so you can go anytime between Monday and Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM. However, it’s recommended to arrive early to avoid long queues, as it’s a first-come, first-served basis. Remember that you must have the provided code; they won’t perform the swab test without it. This code is your unique identifier in the Red Cross automated system, ensuring a smooth process. Also, don’t forget to wear a face mask, face shield, and bring your alcohol.

Pile of people at SM MOA Arena for Free Swab Test

4. LINE UP – When you arrive, approach the police officers to ensure you’re in the correct line. They’ll request your code; show it to them, and they’ll direct you to the appropriate queue. While waiting, jot down your full name, mobile number, email address, and the code on a piece of paper. Make sure to have your ID on hand. Wait until you enter a tent with a disinfecting spray. I started queuing around 1:10 PM and entered the tent at approximately 3:10 PM. Note that taking pictures is prohibited in this area.

4. WAITING AREA – Once you’re inside the tent with misting, you’ll be guided to sit in rows of 14 persons each, forming a waiting area. This area is actually inside MOA Arena’s premises, near the entrance leading to the main concert area where the swab testing is conducted. It’s quite chilly in this waiting area, so bringing a jacket is a good idea. Eating and drinking aren’t allowed; any bottled water will be confiscated before entering the area, so it’s best to pack it in your bag. While seated, ensure you have your paper with the code and personal information ready, along with your ID. I spent about 5-8 minutes in the waiting area until a policewoman called my column to enter the “Concert Area” of MOA Arena where the swab testing takes place.

5. PATIENT INFO RETRIEVAL – Another waiting area, the “Patient Info Retrieval” section, is inside the MOA Arena’s “concert area.” There, you’ll find chairs to sit and wait for your turn. Frontliners behind glass windows will assist you. This is where you provide your ID and the paper with your personal information and code. After verification, the frontliner will issue stickers with barcodes and tracking numbers. You can also photograph the Red Cross poster for tracking your swab test result. Behind this booth, you’ll find the swabbing stations. Upon receiving the stickers, you’ll be directed to the specific booth for your swab test. I handed over my ID and Code at around 3:52 PM and then proceeded to the swabbing area.

6. FINALLY, SWAB TESTING – At the booth, the assigned medical frontliner will request your ID, verify your name and birthday, and place a sticker on your ID, which serves as a tracking code you can use on the Red Cross website. My swabbing started around 3:54 PM. The medical frontliner collected specimens from my throat and both nostrils, a process that took less than 4 minutes. After the swab test, you can head home.

7. THE RESULT – I was tested on August 28 (Friday) and received the result on August 30 (Sunday). I received a text from the Red Cross around 9 AM, stating that the result was available in my email. It took less than 48 hours for the result to be processed, and I was pleasantly surprised to receive it on a Sunday. This quick turnaround is a testament to the dedication of our frontliners who work even on weekends. Thankfully, my result came back NEGATIVE. Thank God.

This is the verification through the Red Cross website. Certifications are sent via email.

I would like to personally express my gratitude to all the frontliners, both medical professionals and police officials at MOA Arena. Caring for thousands of people daily can be exhausting, but they are putting in 100% effort and even risking their health to combat COVID-19. Salute to all of you. Thanks also to the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP), MOA Arena, and the Philippine Red Cross for providing this mega swabbing facility for the Filipino people.

REVIEW: MyPhone myT6 DTV – Android Tablet for e-Learning!

0

The COVID-19 pandemic has unquestionably brought profound changes in every aspect of people’s lives. One of the most prominent topics of discussion this season revolves around how Filipinos will pursue education this year.

Recently, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced the tentative start of classes for August 2020, evoking mixed reactions from the public. In light of this development, DepEd appears to be steadfastly moving forward with online, distant, and blended learning methods. In contrast, a modular learning approach will be implemented in areas with limited internet coverage. Concurrently, local government units (LGUs) are diligently procuring gadgets and tools to support this endeavor. Android tablets, in particular, are in high demand for consumers and both private and government offices.

Notably, MyPhone has initiated a campaign called “Balik-Aral sa Tahanan” to encourage its loyal followers and the Filipino populace to adapt to the new normal by embracing online learning at home, facilitated through the use of Android phones and tablets.

MyPhone, the first Filipino phone brand in the country, renowned for its durable and budget-friendly gadgets, including smartphones, tablets, and basic phones, is committed to serving the Filipino masses. They now offer an extremely affordable Android tablet, one of the most sought-after devices today, the MyPhone myT6 DTV.

MyPhone myT6 DTV

I recently conducted an unboxing review of the myT6 DTV, which you can watch on my YouTube Channel.

Here are the specifications:

Screen:

The MyPhone myT6 DTV features a 7″ IPS Display, making it a handy device with just the right screen size for comfortable viewing and handling.

Google OS:

It runs on Android 9 Pie (Go Edition), the lightweight version of Android Pie, pre-loaded with Google Go apps like YouTube Go, Gmail Go, and more.

Memory and Storage:

Equipped with 1GB of RAM, which is sufficient for basic multitasking (although heavy gaming is not recommended). The storage has been upgraded from MyPhone’s usual releases, now offering 16GB of ROM, expandable to 64GB via an SD card. This ample storage ensures you won’t run out of space for apps and files.

USB-OTG:

The myT6 DTV supports USB-OTG, allowing you to use USB-OTG flash drives or accessories to transfer files from your laptop or desktop to the tablet. This provides an additional storage boost.

Apps for Admin and School Work:

The device is also highly functional for administrative and school-related tasks. You can access PowerPoint presentations, Word, PDF, and Excel files by simply downloading Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel from Google Play for free. You can also install Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets to access your document files from your Google account.

Online Learning Essentials:

For online learning, the device is compatible with DepEd Commons, as demonstrated in my vlog. Additionally, it supports platforms like Coursera, making it a versatile tool for various educational needs.

Accessing the DepED Commons website.

ENTERTAINMENT – DIGITAL TV

In addition to its online learning capabilities, the myT6 DTV doubles as an entertainment hub, boasting a built-in Digital TV that allows you to enjoy free-to-air channels like GMA7, GMA News TV, GMA Heart of Asia, TV5, CNN, and Teleradyo. However, it’s worth noting that ABS-CBN channels and its sub-channels, including the Knowledge Channel and Sports+Action, are currently unavailable due to their ongoing franchise issue. We hope they’ll return soon.

PRICE

As for the price, the MyPhone myT6 DTV is incredibly affordable, retailing at just P2,999, making it one of the most budget-friendly Android tablets in the market. It’s now conveniently accessible at select MyPhone outlets nationwide.

In a world characterized by constant change, the COVID-19 pandemic serves as a poignant reminder that our planet continues to evolve into the future. It urges us to progress into the best versions of ourselves; otherwise, we risk stagnation and limitations in growth and capability. Always remember that opportunities can arise even in the face of difficulties.

REVIEW: Donovan Mesh Office Chair with Chrome base.

0

If you’re here on my blog, it’s likely because, like me, you’re working from home and seeking an affordable and comfortable office chair for your home office setup.

After weeks of thorough research and countless inquiries, I stumbled upon a store on Lazada and decided to purchase the Donovan brand – Mesh Office Chair with a Chrome base. It was being offered by Flitch Home store at a promotional price of PHP 1,499, a significant discount from its original SRP of PHP 3,999, saving me nearly 50%.

Moreover, the seller was incredibly accommodating and responsive in addressing my inquiries via the Lazada seller chat feature.

Here’s the specification

  • Ergonomically Designed Mesh Office/Computer Chair
  • Soft and Smooth, Perfect and Comfortable for Home and Office Use
  • Easy-to-Fix Instruction and Diagram
  • Fixed Position
  • Pneumatic Height Adjustment
  • Tilt Lock Mechanism
  • Gas Lift Type
  • Dimensions: H94cm x L57cm x W48cm
If you’re on the hunt for an affordable and comfortable office chair, this Donovan Mesh Office Chair is worth considering for your home or office setup.

DELIVERY & FEES

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the speedy delivery provided by Flitch Home. It’s unclear whether they handle their own deliveries or if it’s fulfilled by a third party, but in my experience, deliveries usually take longer.

I placed the order on June 3rd, and to my delight, the item arrived on June 6th, well ahead of the Lazada app’s estimated delivery date of June 16th. This prompt delivery certainly earns them an extra star in my book.

The delivery fee, while on the pricier side at Php 400, is justified given the size and weight of the item. Overall, still a fantastic deal, don’t you think?

PACKAGING & ASSEMBLING

The item arrived in excellent packaging, and I must commend Flitch Home for a job well done in this regard.

It was meticulously wrapped in bubble wrap and handled with care during the delivery process. All the necessary parts were included in the package, and assembling the office chair took us less than 15 minutes.

If you’re interested, you can watch my #INYIVlogs for the unboxing experience.

VERDICT:

I’m thrilled to say that I’m extremely satisfied with this purchase. It was not only a great deal, but the entire transaction was also hassle-free. The fact that the item arrived earlier than expected is a significant bonus.

Using the Office Chair while working at home.

I’ve been using this office chair for almost a week now, and I’ve found it to be incredibly comfortable, especially during my daily Zoom meetings.

In my opinion, this office chair is a must-have. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Academia System Global Colleges to provide FREE MyPhone smartphones to their students.

0

As the new school year approaches, Academia System Global Colleges of Talisay City, Cebu has partnered with the first Filipino phone brand in the Philippines, MyPhone, to provide free cellular phones for Grade 10 completers.

In line with the Department of Education’s initiative to conduct online learning to students for the upcoming school year, ASGC took their part to support their students in coping with the new learning environment, making them the first school in the Philippines to give free cellular phones to all their students.

According to ASGC’s President Dr. Ferdinand Yap Tomakin, they have been motivated by the school’s mission to offer varied learning opportunities and educational experiences geared towards the total formation of their students.

“Giving out free cellular phones is the ultimate manifestation of the school’s commitment in providing optimum and quality learning,” he said. “In doing so, the school will be able to reach out especially to the underprivileged, keeping true to our philosophy that education is a fundamental right and not a privilege,” he added.

Students who will receive free cellular phones can easily communicate with their teacher through online or text messaging.

In addition, ASGC reiterated that if a student opts not to receive a cellular phone, they will still be entitled for the free allowance of P500 per semester, free educational supplies, free P.E. shirt, and other inclusions in line with their offer of free tuition, miscellaneous and other school fees for Grade 10 completers from public schools.

MyPhone, on the other hand, has extended their overwhelming gratitude to the school’s capability and openness to support the youth.

“We are glad that they reached the right phone brand as we also wanted to tap students in our future projects,” MyPhone Vice President Kevin Tan said.

“MyPhone has been providing quality and affordable phones for the Filipinos since 2007 and this being partnered with a school is a great opportunity for us to reach the right market with our gadgets,” he added.

MyPhone Balik-Aral sa Tahanan Campaign

The Filipino phone brand has recently launched Balik-Aral sa Tahanan campaign which aims to introduce the use of tablets and other mobile devices as an e-learning equipment for students.

Completed 7 online courses with FREE Certificate during COVID-19 lockdown.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic caught almost all of us off-guard. As news of this new virus strain emerged, governments worldwide began discussing precautionary measures to contain it and buy time for vaccine development. Eventually, more and more countries, including the Philippines, imposed lockdowns.

On March 17, the Philippine government implemented a “Community Quarantine” in Metro Manila (later extending it to provinces). People were urged to stay home, and many establishments, except drug stores and grocery stores, temporarily closed. Businesses able to function remotely swiftly shifted to work-from-home (WFH) arrangements.

Fortunately, my company had been practicing WFH since early 2019, making the transition smooth for us, especially in my department. We were equipped with the knowledge and experience needed. However, due to mall closures, most of our brand’s outlets also temporarily shut down. Two weeks into the quarantine, our company had to suspend operations.

A snippet of how my Work from Home takes place.

This period posed challenges for me, as I’m someone who thrives on staying productive every day. If I’m not working, it doesn’t feel like “my” day. So, I attempted to fill my time with various activities. I joined the TikTok trend, binge-watched series and movies, and more. However, in my view, these activities didn’t fulfill me. I couldn’t see myself repeating them throughout the quarantine. While these pursuits may work for others, they didn’t resonate with me. We all have distinct ways of coping with stress and unfamiliar situations. I believed there had to be other avenues for me to explore and find fulfillment.

Here I am, in front of my laptop, having Zoom meetings during Work from Home.

At one point, I realized that the stress of staying at home and doing nothing was completely different from the stress of work. Stress from work is only natural and is something I have learned to cope with. But this new kind of stress, from shifting from working nonstop to working on nothing at all, was really disorienting. I knew I had to find a way to work around this.

One day, during the last week of April, my sister shared an article about online schooling platforms such as Udemy and Coursera offering courses for FREE in response to the global pandemic, which required almost everyone to stay at home. You can check the article here:

As I browsed through the available courses, my interest was immediately piqued. There were various fields to choose from, including social sciences, engineering, health, business, and marketing. This opportunity was timely, as I had been planning to enroll in marketing courses since last year, but my tight schedule didn’t allow for it until now.

After carefully reviewing the course options, I decided to take advantage of Coursera’s offer. What made it even more appealing was the chance to earn certifications for FREE if I enrolled before May 31st. Typically, these courses cost between $39 and $79 each, so I didn’t hesitate to enroll. Initially, my excitement led me to enroll in 12 courses, but I later had to withdraw from some due to overlapping topics and purposes. I hadn’t filtered them well initially, all because of my excitement! (Sorry :P) I eventually narrowed it down to 7 courses.

When their courses are offered in collaboration with these prestigious institutions, you can rest assured that you’re learning from the best.
