ASUS concludes its partnership with the nonprofit organization CORA, marking the end of a successful three-phased project. This project involved ASUS employees, partners, dealers, and the public, all dedicated to sustainability and the reduction of plastic waste.
PASIG CITY, Philippines, October 12, 2023 — ASUS firmly underscores its dedication to a sustainable future, actively pursuing a circular economy. In collaboration with the nonprofit organization CORA (Communities Organized for Resource Allocation). ASUS achieved a significant milestone, collecting 1.67 tons of plastic and recyclable waste. Moreover, the ASUS x CORA sustainability campaign comprised three distinct phases. Each phase engaged a wide range of stakeholders, fostering eco-friendly product adoption, waste reduction, enhanced awareness of the circular economy and climate action, and educating individuals on eco-conscious living.
“At ASUS, we believe that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. As we continue innovating our products, we strive to be more sustainable. We are immensely thankful for everyone, including our partner CORA, the ASUS Philippines employees, our partners, dealers, and all the Filipinos who helped us in this meaningful mission to protect and save our environment through recycling plastic and other everyday waste, giving them a second life, and promoting a sustainable and incredible future for the people and the planet,”
ASUS Philippines Country Manager George Su said.
Back in 2007, ASUS introduced its inaugural sustainable notebook. The ASUS Bamboo Series, which garnered extensive environmental certifications and recognition for its groundbreaking engineering and design. Furthermore, In early 2023, ASUS furthered its sustainability commitment by launching the most environmentally-friendly Zenbook to date, the Zenbook S 13 OLED (UX5304). Additionally, the said product underscores the company’s 2025 Sustainability Goals and dedication to environmental responsibility.
Taking a substantial leap toward circular product design, the Zenbook S 13 OLED holds the distinction of being an EPEAT Gold registered product. Also, it positively impacts the environment throughout its entire lifecycle. This encompasses aspects such as material utilization, manufacturing, assembly, use, and end-of-life considerations.
Circular economy starts with us
ASUS organized a knowledge-sharing event for its employees. The ASUStainable Solution: Circular Economy Starts with Us, in collaboration with CORA. In addition with its Circular Center Women Champions (CCWC). During this event, CORA and CCWC shed light on the Philippines’ current plastic scenario. They educated ASUS employees on their role in promoting a circular economy by recycling common household items, such as plastic bottles.
Beyond inspiring personal change, the workshop encouraged employees to share their newfound knowledge with family and friends. Furthermore, following the seminar, ASUS employees engaged in a two-month recycling campaign, collecting plastic bottles, soft plastics, sibak, colored paper, and cartons. They utilized CORA’s Eco-Ikot Center pop-up, which featured dedicated trash bins within the ASUS office.
Importantly, ASUS employees successfully gathered a total of 840.6 kg of waste. This waste was then transported to CORA’s partner, Sentinel Upcycling Technologies, where it was transformed into high-quality products like benches, school chairs, and mobile trash bins.
As part of ASUS’s commitment to innovation and value creation under the ASUS 2025 Sustainability Goals, they donated two ASUS Zenbook laptops to CORA. This donation aims to assist CORA in handling administrative tasks, such as data recording for their Eco-Ikot Center in Parañaque City and overseeing other initiatives and collaborations with both public and private organizations.
The CORA Eco-Ikot Center represents an inclusive and comprehensive recycling system, allowing communities to trade recyclables for points. These points can then be exchanged for various incentives. Distinguished as the first of its kind in the Philippines and globally, CORA’s Eco-Ikot Center provides a sustainable resolution to combat the plastic pollution crisis.
ASUS x CORA Mall Caravan
In the second phase, ASUS introduced CORA Eco-Ikot Center pop-ups in three ASUS Exclusive Stores. To enable Filipinos to conveniently recycle and decrease plastic waste. In return for clean and dry plastic bottles, participants received ASUS and CORA merchandise. Moreover, the CCWCs enlightened them and other mallgoers about the concept of a circular economy and the advantages of recycling common plastic waste.
Furthermore, mallgoers had the opportunity to explore the Zenbook S 13 OLED. They can gain insights into the importance of endorsing and utilizing eco-friendly products, thereby strengthening ASUS’s commitment to sustainability.
The ASUS x CORA Mall Caravan successfully gathered over 1,100 plastic bottles, equivalent to 28.5 kg, during events held at SM Cyberzone in Megamall, North EDSA, and Mall of Asia.
Celebrating International Coastal Cleanup Day
In the final leg, ASUS marked the 2023 International Coastal Cleanup Day by leading a cleanup effort at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) shore. Zenbook S 13 OLED Ambassador and CORA Founder Antoinette Taus spearheaded the initiative, joined by volunteers from ASUS employees, media, influencers, partners, and dealers. Together, this group of 75 volunteers successfully collected 646.2 kg of plastic waste, Styrofoam, rubber materials, and stuffed toys. The collected waste was meticulously segregated for recycling through CORA’s recycling partner.
The data obtained during this event will prove invaluable in aiding CORA and government agencies in addressing the pressing waste issue in Manila Bay, a significant section of the Manila Bay coast holding an alarming estimated 9.46 billion pieces of plastic waste.
Additionally, United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and CORA Founder Antoinette Taus emphasized the importance of waste reduction and responsible waste disposal within a circular economy framework.
ASUS Global and its local markets collaborated to make substantial advancements in sustainability. The recently published ASUS 2022 Sustainability Report underscores these achievements, highlighting that ASUS surpassed ENERGY STAR standards by 34%. Furthermore, eco-friendly products accounted for a notable 87% of total product revenue. These accomplishments have earned ASUS numerous 2023 Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards and international acclaim. Looking ahead, ASUS is committed to pursuing both local and global initiatives aimed at becoming a net-zero enterprise by 2050.
